Visit to The Lesbian and Gay
Community Center of Greater Kansas City
Kansas City, Missouri
March 25 thru 28, 2005
Our sister center was very welcoming to Shän and Blue when
they
stopped in to meet the K.C. crew and see their facility. They were very
helpful with advise and sharing the history of their center.
Pride Month Celebration
June 4, 2005
SPOT (the former bar and theatre) was generous in opening it's doors
for the Center's first fundraiser. From live entertainment to a
fabulous silent auction, all had a lovely time while learning a bit
about LGBT Pride.
Summer Kick-Off Celebration
June 11, 2005
Freddie's was the place to be for the Center's 2nd fundraiser for the
St. Louis LGBT Community Survey. The D.J. kept things pumping while the
Center's crew sold raffle tickets and did a 50/50 drawing along with
another silent auction. Big thumbs up to Michael Sieveking for
coordinating this super event.
Pride Networking Event {Pride
Business Guide}
June 24, 2005
The Center was invited to the Pride Business Guide (one of the largest
pride networking website) Networking Event. It was a blast to connect
with so many community members and Lisa and Bo were stupendous
hostesses. We can't wait to attend in 2006.
St. Louis Pridefest
June 25 & 26 2005
The Center was very proud to attend the 2005 Pridefest. So many people,
from our area and other states, connected with the Center and was
excited about our plans.
St. Louis LGBT Community Center
Survey
June 25 thru October 7, 2005
Through the efforts of Rev. Dale Chavis and Scott Emanuel, the Center
was able to conduct an official assessment of the community needs and
wants. We look forward to the final tallying of data and using the info
to start servicing the community.
Visits to Community Organizations
July thru October 2005
Center volunteers went out to some of our community organizations and
talked with them about the Center and received their opinions and
thoughts through the survey along with one-on-one conversations. Way to
go working the field!
SCIII Wine and Cheese Bazaar
Marketplace
July 16, 2005
The Center was happy to be invited to the 1st annual SCIII Wine and
Cheese Bazaar Marketplace. This organization puts on
“Sistahspeak-Open Mic Poetry/Spoken Word” at
Cicero's. We
connected with many folks from the African American community and the
LGBT African American community. And the entertainment was absolutely
wonderful.
National Association of Lesbian Gay
Bi Transgender Community Centers
Midwest Regional Conference
Chicago, IL
August 12 & 13, 2005
The Center was so excited to attend this conference... and rightfully
so. Shän and Blue attended and received invaluable information
for
building and maintaining the Center. The centers that attended...
Kansas City, MO; Milwaukee, WI; Chicago, IL; Ferndale, MI; Cleveland,
OH and New York City, NY to name a few, were inspirational and very,
very encouraging. The main message: “Keep Going!”.
St. Louis Black Pride
August 21, 2005
We had a fabulous time connecting with the African American LGBT
community-at-large. The entertainment was fabulous and the people
stupendous. In addition, the African American LGBT community had a lot
to say about what they would like to see with the Center.
Visit to The Phoenix Center
Springfield, IL
August 22 & 23, 2005
Our Illinois sister center truly knows the meaning of family. We felt
like welcomed family members when we went to visit and received a
plethora of highly valuable information and encouragement. If you're
ever in Springfield, make sure you stop by the Phoenix Center.
The National Gay and Lesbian Task
Force Creating Change Conference
Oakland, CA
November 9 thru 13, 2005
The event that started the resurgence of the Center was again an
emotional upliftment. Scott Emanuel was our representative at this
year's Creating Change and he did his duty and returned with an
abundance of information to help take the Center to new levels.
